10 - most common password revealed: Is Yours one of them..??
Passwords are really important. They help your personal accounts stay private and secure but, if you reuse, rotate, or use easy passwords, you are leaving yourself open to an account breach.
Research has revealed the most-used passwords in the last 12 months. The research conducted by the UK's National Cyber Security Centre has revealed that 123456 was the most commonly used password in the last year followed by 123456789 and qwerty. Several other combinations which made it to the top 10 are- password, 11111, 12345678, abc123, 1234567, password1, 12345.
The NCSC said that majority of people use simple passwords as they are easy to remember.
Speaking about the passwords, the National Cyber Security Centre technical director Dr Ian Levy said, "Password re-use is a major risk that can be avoided- nobody should protect sensitive data with something that can be guessed, like their first name, local football team, or favourite band. Using hard-to-guess passwords is a strong first step and we recommend combining three random but memorable words. Be creative and use words memorable to you, so people can't guess your password."
So if you have any of the above-mentioned combinations as your password, it may be time for a change.
